and i was thinking to myself, some bird will probably eat these, as i threw three marks and spencers baby potatoes from my third floor bedroom window. but as i watched them splat as they hit the
grass, i knew not even a magpie would touch those potatoes.the best and most important lesson i have learned so far is never to buy produce from tesco. no matter how cheap or attractive the fruit
appears. never.day one of detox and the fifth day without bread. one gala apple, one banana, one yellow plum, one bunch of green grapes, one tesco fruit smoothie, one handful of mixed nuts, some
steamed broccoli and carrts, four boiled baby potatoes, and one point five litres of water. and i'm still uncertain of the rules because it's not a diet. potatoes are a vegetable, aren't they? they
said i would experience headaches.through it all, i am reading the virgin suicides by jeffrey eugenides. long ago, someone (i think it was an ex-girlfriend of my brother) suggested that i either
read the book, watch the film, or both. so, halfway through, and it reads somewhere between brett easton ellis (less than zero) and jd salinger (franny and zooey). death, religion, wealth, scary
upper-middle class families. whoever recommended it to me, thank you. so, i would in turn recommend it to kevin, molee, sed, and those goths walking across the street right now who must be in love

so, i watched war of the worlds yesterday. stephen spielberg was responsible for e.t., so you figure he must know what he's doing. this is an alien film, after all. right. here are my thoughts:-tom
cruise playing an arsehole-turned-good guy. i've never seen that before (re: rain man, born on the fourth of july, every other tom cruise film...)-there's no way scrawny, ten-year-old, whiney
dakota fanning would have survived an alien invasion, even with tom cruise carrying her half the time.-there's no way whiney tom cruise would have survived an alien invasion.-tom cruise as a
working-class single dad. *rolls eyes*-since when does boston have a sign declaring, 'welcome to boston'? have i been missing something the past 21 years of my life?-the arrogance of it all! as if
anyone would have survived that attack. and afterwards, the narration which states that humans will survive anything. i hope aliens do invade and kill everything in sight...-the ending. so, what
now? your entire infrastructure and 99.9% of humanity (and other living things) has been destroyed. what are you going to do? tom cruise, you were a construction worker in the film. maybe you can
rebuild some things, but i don't think you'll be milking a cow or growing tomatoes anytime soon. really.-edit: also, tim robbins clearly should have had a larger role, being one of the few bright
spots of the film.the good news is that it wasn't entirely shit. the camera angles were good, and the dialogue wasn't really that bad. the best part was when dakota fanning declared (in her whiney,
yuppie, bratty voice), 'i have back problems.' i laughed so hard in the cinema. of course, the effects were cool, and the film was entertaining, more or less (ie, it wasn't a total waste of the
3.15). still, i'm more looking forward to charlie and the chocolate factory, and i know i'm not alone.
